California Screamin: All the leaves are ash, and the skies are too
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
Trump was lying about giving 500 million dollars to California.
This explains why Jerry Brown said Trump has "got our back". Turns out his mistake was believing anything the man said.
Republicans are currently trying to pass a bill that would roll back environmental regulations. You know, to not "get in the way" of "preventing wildfires".

Seems like as appropriate a thing as any for Jerry to go out on.

And at the rate our population is growing, and with our ongoing failures to restrict water usage, we're facing a water crisis within the next couple of decades.

Yeah, but that's old news to anyone from California.

I actually can't believe Arizona isn't already in a water crisis. "Monument to Man's arrogance" and all that.
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
Well, saying things like "Arizona is having a drought", while often technically true, doesn't exactly grab headlines away from wilting gardens in San Francisco.
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
I've been to Ashland many times, and while the town itself is gorgeous and charming, water will still be the limiting factor. That shit gets parched.
Hawaii and Seattle are real-estate shitshows but good luck.

Hawaii is out, (for now) as it was my mom's plan for after her mom dies to retire.
We might actually be moving to Seattle so she can be closer to her mom to take care of her. She wants to wait a year, so she says, to finish her job here while we rent in the meantime.
Problem is, actually finding a place to rent is basically impossible right now. Chico (and California in general) was having a housing crisis, now add 30000 displaced people into the area all looking for a place to live.

Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
Seattle's got some pockets near the border that are still kind of affordable and while the prices have certainly not receded they've also recently stopped rapidly growing, at least.
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
Number of unaccounted people down to 11. Number dead has lowered to 85, which is still an insane number of people.
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
The Raking thing has become such a meme around here that my mom, who doesn't even know what a meme is, texted me "oh shit, we forgot to rake the river" when the sac flooded a few days ago.

didn't you say earlier that your mom gave you a textbook definition of a meme when asked

Trump is cutting off FEMA money for California wildfires.
Trump wrote:"Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest fires that, with proper Forest Management, would never happen," Trump tweeted. "Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!"
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
It's not actually clear he has the authority to do it, and the White House has declined to make any comment in response to querstions about the tweet. It is, however, another example of the kind of monstrous person he actually is.
Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
<Friday> so anyway
<Friday> i was going to make a post about this but
<Friday> the fallout from the Camp Fire is that Chico now has an insane homeless population
<Friday> and we won't build them a "city" to live in because they might do drugs and also hey it's right in our backyard
<Friday> so
<Friday> the population of chico will make big banners
<Friday> "Butte County Strong"
<Friday> they'll make a new beer
<Friday> "Resilience"
<Friday> they'll post uplifting posts on facebook
<XxSedexX> which i'm gonna guess would be incredibly cheaper as usual to provide basic housing for but they're gonna let them freeze to death this winter while blaming them for being bad for the economy?
<Brentai> THOUGHTS
<Brentai> AND
<Friday> but when it comes to actually building you a home because you lost yours in the fire?
<Brentai> PRAYERS
<Friday> hahaha
<Friday> no
<Friday> you might do drugs
<Friday> get that shit out of my backyard
<Friday> Sede it's always cheaper to house them
<Friday> 100% of the time
<Friday> so yeah
<Friday> you're not wrong
<beatbandito> i'm pretty sure having a home and supportive community is 100% of the reasons everyone does drugs
<Brentai> Thoughts and prayers are two things that specifically have no material worth.
<XxSedexX> they can even employ them to rebuild the scorched area
<Brentai> I always appreciate people outright saying "I'm giving you a bunch of nothing."
<XxSedexX> but nah
<XxSedexX> that makes too much sense
<Friday> Now, to be fair
<Friday> a lot of the people in chico are as outraged by this as I am
<Friday> like i said, it's an island of blue
<Friday> it's -mostly- a few assholes in key positions blocking it
<Friday> but it's also a large and outspoken segment of the normal pop
<Friday> a lot of whom are dems
<Friday> who are just doing NIMBY shit
<Friday> who don't understand the dissonence of saying "butte country strong" and posting about how everyone's heart goes out
<Friday> but then won't give actual money/material to the victims
<Friday> the local paper has been religiously (even fanatically) covering the drama
<Friday> but yeah it's a non-story outside of chico
<beatbandito> Friday obviously you need to lead the movement to donate
<beatbandito> "dig deep into butte"
<Friday> because while the nation (and even world) was interested in an entire town burning to the ground
<beatbandito> "give out the butte"
<Brentai> It's like asking a casual acquaintance how their day is going or liking everybody's posts about Avengers.
<Friday> it turns out nobody is interested in re-housing the 40% of so who were so poor they have no options
<Friday> paradise was a retirement community, too
<Friday> so guess what
<Friday> most of the homeless are over 65
<Friday> and will die
<Friday> in
* Friday checks watch
<Friday> 4 months
<Brentai> You don't fucking care, everybody knows you don't fucking care, and hilariously they'd actually judge you negatively if you DID fucking care, but if you don't go through the motions, then you're not very good at acting civilized.
<XxSedexX> oh aye. there was that bill to continue funding for 9/11 responders' health care. it was up to a unanimous vote so long as no senator opposed. enter Rand.
<beatbandito> honestly good on them for holding up this summer
<Friday> I've been giving anyone who asks me money
<XxSedexX> we keep proving to ourselves how easily we COULD fix all our shit. but
<Yoji> compress the poor into bricks and use them to build a new strip mall
<beatbandito> friday if you do that they'll build a house and eventually do drugs!
* Yoji thrusts fists into hips proudly
<Friday> i don't have any money to give
<Friday> but i do it anyway
<Friday> i mean shit, -I- am a victim of the camp fire
<Friday> but was lucky enough to have a mom rich enough to have insurance
<Friday> OH
<Friday> INSURANCE
<Friday> HAHAHAHA
<Friday> HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
<Friday> so.
<Friday> This is statewide.
<Friday> Insurance companies
<Friday> are withdrawing their insurance from people who live in the hills.
<Friday> except they can't legally do that, right?
<Friday> so
<Friday> instead
<Friday> they are
<Friday> increasing the reqs
<Friday> so that either
<Friday> 1. you have to pay the new doubled rates
<Friday> 2. you lapse
<Friday> and the reqs are literally endless and insane and impossible
<Friday> like "no brush"
<Friday> and if you fufill them
<Friday> they force you to take photos
<Brentai> There is also the guy who actually started a hill fire here because he was pissed off about, idk, living on a hill I guess.
<Friday> send them in
<Friday> and then point out a new problem
<Friday> like
<Friday> "moss on roof"
<Friday> yes make sure your exterior roof is absolutely spotless
<beatbandito> yeah friday for like a month I trained to do insurance inspections
<Friday> clearcut your yard
<Brentai> Rake the leaves.
<beatbandito> and after a week of field work was like "oh wait I'm supposed to be finding reasons to cancel on elderly people"
<Friday> yep
<Friday> it's not profitable (enough) to be worth it
<Friday> with the new mega fires
<Friday> unless you pay double (or more)
<Friday> so they're just
<Friday> making everyone either pay double (or more) or dropping
<Friday> and if you drop, they can do whatever they want rate-wise for a new costumer
<Friday> but this is affecting people at least as far down as the bay area hills
<Friday> i haven't heard about socal hills but i assume
<Brentai> Dunno.
<Brentai> I was surprised to find out anybody lived up there in the first place.
<Friday> the problem is this
<Brentai> There's... like, nothing interesting there, at all.
<Friday> so valley propery is super expensive (in comparison) to hill property
<Friday> for obvious reasons
<Friday> so all the poor people live in the hills
<XxSedexX> man thats exactly how insurance trully winds up paying out, yeah. everyone pays a little hoping the worst won't happen. then when the worst happens, everyone still covered pays double
<XxSedexX> mega logic
<Friday> anyway i'm gonna post this log onto the boards because i guess this is "post by way of finalfight" day
<XxSedexX> bonerfarts.
<Brentai> Ponyparts.

If somebody made a fucking IPA to celebrate my surviving a fire, I'd douse myself in it and light myself on fire.

Re: Cali-Forn-I-A is a few burgers short of a barbecue
So the can says "Brewed to support those impacted by the Camp Fire", but has Sierra Nevada actually released any information about what form this support actually takes? Like x% of profit, or x% of revenue from said awful beer (most craft brews are generally terrible, so a corporate "craft brew" being bad is pretty normal, really) being sent to a specific org? Or does it just have that line on the can with little or no additional info?
EDIT: I was able to find information to the effect that it's supposed to be an "all-revenue goes to charity" deal, which is decent if true, but also that the way it was set up was that SN got suppliers to donate to partner breweries across the country, who would brew the beer under license, but that SN are still waiting for a bunch of the money to come in from those third parties (articles from May said "half", no idea what that number is now).
Still can't seem to find who the money is actually supposed to go TO, which is kind of important.
