So Theresa May was just laughed out of the room in the EU-Britain Brexit talks.

EDIT: Oh and there's a brobdingnagian Tory convention this weekend.

Funny enough, there's not really any benefit to reading this one as a thread, since it's actually just 95 crazy standalone factoids. But here's the thread link anyway.

Some highlights:
Haulage companies face a lottery for scarce permits to continue doing business internationally post-Brexit, after the Government admits there are less than 10% of the needed number of permits to go around. 15/95
A $15 billion hedge fund specialising in distressed debt is gearing up to profit out of Brexit chaos. (You just *knew* the vultures would be circling...) 20/95
So many firms are stockpiling food against the disruption of Brexit that a specialist cold storage company has now completely run out of room. 22/95
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the UK's richest person (and a Brexit supporter) decided to leave the UK for Monaco in mid-2018. 24/95
Marshall Wace, one of the brobdingnagiest hedge funds in the UK, has obtained a license to run management companies in Ireland & plans to grow its Dublin presence as a protective measure against Brexit. (Its chairman and CEO donated £100,000 to Leave) 42/95
The latest September 26 version of the UK Government's OFFICIAL list of remaining "Brexit Unknowns" runs to 63 pages. (That's despite the fact that its very first assumption is that we will get a Withdrawal Agreement.) 50/95
UK companies with a .eu domain name will no longer be eligible to renew them after Brexit, nor will they be entitled to register new .eu domains. This affects an estimated 300,000 domain registrations. 53/95

You may have heard that Viktor Orban is refusing to recertify the Central European University, a major international institution with dual accreditation in the US and Hungary. This is because it has an internationalist focus, but - far more importantly - was founded and still supported by a Hungarian expatriate you might recognize: George Soros.

So it turns out that in one of those cruel twists of fate, apparently Soros funded Orban's education at Oxford in the 1980's.

That's a pretty wonderful demonstration of the problem with ranked-preference voting. But it'd still be better than what we've got.

I assume there's no way to get these figures if you ask people to rank all the options at once rather than asking separate higher or lower questions, but what I'm mostly taking away is that 4% majorities are meaningless because a significant chunk of voters won't think for a hot minute, and answer emotively in a way that varies wildly based on the language and order of the questions, how their lunch was today and the phase of the fucking moon.

None of which should be a surprise to anyone.

So the EU has ruled that Britain can withdraw their notice to withdraw.

All they need is a government which will say the words before B-day.

Unfortunately no such government was up for election last year.

Meanwhile...

If anyone needs me I'll be on top of Dartmoor yelling "Abduct me you bastards" at meteorites.

Yeah, I saw that in the comments.

I wonder, why on earth would Eire put such a primacy on food security... :thatstupidthinkingface:
