"My opponent will fit right in, in Washington. I won't." said the middle-aged white Southern Republican in his TV ad.
Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
Remember when McCain was all "maverick"? I do. Because I kept picturing him as a MMX boss.
Haha, man. Sarah Palin. I wonder if McCain still curses her name three times before falling asleep every night.

He doesn't, because he quickly learned that if you say her name three times near a television it will start playing a spooky porno.

Speaking of Palin, someone got recorded and released audio of the police report after the family brawl.

I mean even if that worked the way they'd intended, their URL would be http://http://gopthedailydose.com.tumblr.com/
Oh my god.
Oh my GOD.
Okay so, go to the DAILYDOSE main site, the real one. No spaces, gop[]the[]daily[]dose[dot]com.

That is AWESOME.

A Thaddy little tangent: it's "pleased as Punch", with a capital "P". You're comparing yourself to a gleefully violent puppet, not a beverage.

Thank you Thad that was v. informative

Raw Story wrote:The New Mexico Motor Vehicles Division (MVD) has reportedly stopped issuing driver’s licenses or photo identification cards used for voting to so-called “illiterates” who only speak the Navajo language.
In a memo obtained by ProgressNowNM, Bureau Chief Aurora Lopez outlines the policy for MVD employees.
“Agents are not allowed to read the questions on driver’s applications to a customer,” Lopez writes. “They would [need] a letter stating that they have a condition that falls under the [Americans with Disabilities Act] for us to read the questions.”
“Applicants should be able to read the questions on their own since it raises question[s] as to how they obtained their driver’s license.”
Lopez adds: “We are not able to issue license [sic] for illiterates.”
Noooooooo way could this brilliant plan backfire, oh no.

Voter ID laws: totally not about suppressing voter turnout, nope nope nope.
Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
I'm amazed we dance this same fucking dance every single election cycle. Are they still doing the misleading mailers that tell people wrong information about their polling locations that somehow only get sent to the homes of poor people, mainly minorities?
Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
I'm inclined to think Jeb has a better shot at getting the nomination, but that neither one of them is going to win the presidency.
Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
I've been realizing that the next Republican primary is just going to be syndicated reruns of 2012. Besides Romney, it looks like we're already getting Perry, Huckabee, and Santorum back. Christie is a palette-swap of Giuliani ("guy that is initially seen as tough for being a Republican in a heavily Democratic part of the Northeast, until the rest of the country realizes he's just an asshole"). Carson isn't quite up to the nuttiness standards of Cain yet, but he's still got a few months to rev up all the way.
Someone call up Jon Huntsman and see if he wants to join the race again. It should only take a couple weeks of his time.

Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
Huckabee and Giuliani ran in '08, not '12.
I don't see '16 as dragging out as long as '12. '12 was something of an aberration in how Romney was the moderates' pick and the obvious nominee who the base hated and tried to find any possible alternative to (Santorum! Perry! Gingrich! Cain!).
Again, I think Jeb Bush is the likely nominee, and I don't see him being as divisive among Republicans as Romney was. His record as governor appeals to moderate Republicans; his family name appeals to the base.
(Of course, moderate Republicans also remember just how toxic that family name was by 2008, and I think they'll be wary of that -- as well they should be; I really don't think he's got a good chance in the general -- but I don't know of anybody in the Republican Party who's got a better shot than he does.)
Obviously, any predictions this far out are really, really premature -- but both parties, and especially the Republican Party, usually go with safe, obvious choices. (But not always.)

Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
The question seems to be whether or not Jeb Bush will run, not whether or not he gets nominated if he runs.
Whether or not Jeb Bush runs depends on the donors. He needs the money before he can get the votes; he has a lot less luck with the money than he does with the votes.

Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
I think he's at an immediate advantage compared to everybody else, though, in that he's got name recognition without the need to advertise.
Granted, so did Giuliani. But Giuliani couldn't take the Florida primary. Is there any doubt that Jeb Bush can?
