Everyone always likes to point out that his flipping out was because they were doing money shit in a church, but it's not like Jesus didn't just constantly fucking shit on the rich otherwise. Dude could not go 10 minutes without talking about how rich people were getting denied heaven for being a bunch of bastards.

"If you guys ever write down all this stuff I'm saying, I want everybody to make sure to include that part: rich people don't go to heaven. I mean it. Is that the doctor over there? Get him to write it down too. It's important."

I'm legitimately starting to wonder: was I the only one who grew up hearing that Money is the Root of All Evil? Or is that just a thing weird ex-hippie light misanthropes with too many cats teach their kids?

It's 1 Timothy 6:10.

There's all sorts of shitty justifications these people regurgitate when confronted with the very, very clear Biblical message that greed is bad, though.

Tommy Douglas, the leader of our first mainstream socialist party (the CCF, precursor to the NDP), was one of those folksy prairie ministers with a bottomless store of down-home wisdom and compassion. One quote from him I recall often is "The Bible is like a Bull Fiddle; you can make it play any tune you like."

It amuses me that the only way right-wing trash can make that work is by outright lying about what the bible says.

i, too, remember the part of the bible where Our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ stepped into the temple & saw the money changers & said "this is good to me, lmao."

render unto ceasar what is caesar's, except if it's 70% off, because those bargains are godlike

Yay!

speaking of, the national strike starts Oct 15th. I will not be engaging in any economic activity (buying nothing) for at least 1 week.

(Of course I'll get gas and buy food and stuff to stock up beforehand. It's about sending a message to our government.)

Strike averted. The deal still has to be ratified, so a strike could still happen if the membership doesn't support it, but it's not happening tomorrow. IATSE's press release says:

The proposed contract addresses core issues, including reasonable rest periods; meal breaks; a living wage for those on the bottom of the pay scale; and significant increases in compensation to be paid by new-media companies.

Architect Resigns in Protest over UCSB Mega-Dorm - Criticizes Munger Hall as Social and Psychological Experiment with Unknown Consequences.

The idea was conceived by 97-year-old billionaire-investor turned amateur-architect Charles Munger, who donated $200 million toward the project with the condition that his blueprints be followed exactly.

McFadden draws striking comparisons between Munger Hall and other large structures to illustrate its colossal footprint. Currently, he said, the largest single dormitory in the world is Bancroft Hall at the U.S. Naval Academy, which houses 4,000 students and is composed of multiple wings wrapped around numerous courtyards with over 25 entrances.

“Munger Hall, in comparison, is a single block housing 4,500 students with two entrances,” McFadden said, and would qualify as the eighth densest neighborhood on the planet, falling just short of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

That line does jump out a bit, eh?

I like how this fucking asshole wouldn't even be around to observe the effects of his little "experiment".
