How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.

Satire; my bad. Beware, as always, of believing things because you want to believe them.

The mugshot is real, but it's a guy arrested for a DUI, which is much less fun.

So, apparently Abbot pharmaceutical destroyed thousands of Covid tests and laid off their production workforce because Covid was over. :V

Not a huge news story per-se, but a very cockle-warming Christmas story of one IT man's resignation.

yeah watching that guy vacillate between "bro wtf you're such a piece of shit" "bro please man save the company" and "OH MY GOD WE'RE LOSING SO MUCH MONEY" is like morphine injected directly into my heart.

As someone who will leave two projects effectively dead in the water in mmm... three minutes, might I cordially suggest to managers that you train some fucking backups ever?

But Brent, training costs employees time and that means it costs money. You wouldn't want to waste valuable time, right?

I'm by no means all that vital to the continued function of the company but I'm pretty sure every position I've been in since "line cook mook" I've been the only person on campus who knows how to do my job, and have been strongly discouraged from writing any documentation. Not because they don't need it, see, but because no one would read it anyway.

the mind boggles tbh

AV Club staff find hiring notices for their own jobs

AV Club's been on a downward slide for like a decade and I haven't read it since the comments switched over to Kinja and pretty much killed the community overnight, but it's still sad and infuriating to see it go out like this.

FTC has a “plausible claim” that Facebook is an illegal monopoly, judge says

US District Judge James Boasberg had invited the FTC to refile the case after throwing out its initial attempt when he found it lacking. “Second time lucky?” Boasberg wrote in yesterday’s opinion. Apparently.

“The core theory of the lawsuit remains essentially unchanged,” he said of the FTC's refiling. “The facts alleged this time around to fortify those theories, however, are far more robust and detailed than before, particularly in regard to the contours of Defendant’s alleged monopoly.”

The FTC argues that Facebook (now known as Meta) used a “buy and bury” strategy to stifle competition in the social networking space. Specifically, it alleges that Facebook purchased both Instagram and WhatsApp to prevent them from offering their large user bases new features that could have challenged Facebook’s main platform.

And every AV Club worker in Chicago has chosen to quit rather than move to LA.

Much as the AV Club was a shadow of its former self, now it won't even be that. Whatever site exists on that domain going forward, it's the AV Club in name only.

Maybe they'll escalate to the new hottest move: Suing them if they try to quit.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that "You're not legally allowed to quit" is the line where it's literal slavery.
