I appreciate that the hour is still young, but sincere congratulations on the new 'Days in this office without a civil war' ticker.

Capitol Police officers face discipline for selfies with rioters, internal documents show

Really burying the lede here, Miami Herald. Last 6 paragraphs of the article:
In addition to the cases of unbecoming conduct, a special agent in the department’s Protective Services Bureau faces disciplinary action on an allegation of improper dissemination of information
The allegation stems from a conversation the officer had with a friend the week after the riot in which he allegedly revealed information about the secure location he helped evacuate lawmakers to during the riot.
The friend, who is referred to as “ANONYMOUS” in the documents, called the FBI tip line to report the conversation and expressed concerns that the agent subscribed to Trump’s election conspiracy theories.
“I don’t want to report a friend of forty years but he’s says enough concerning statements that I feel like I need to do this... he’s just fallen into this cult and these beliefs,” the documents quote the anonymous friend as saying in a subsequent interview with Capitol Police.
The agent denied that he was sympathetic to the cause of the rioters, but he acknowledged that he may have inadvertently shared information about the secure location.
“I can’t say one hundred percent that I didn’t do what you’re telling me I did,” the agent told investigators.

Who wants some witness tampering and obstruction charges? We do! We do!

Maybe less popcorn and more Gallagher splatter guards. At least, that's what I reach for with most Trump news.
This sure feels like it should be a bigger story than the news blogs have been reporting. Then again, "Trump & Co Are Obstinate Shitdicks" isn't really much of a headline, isn't it?

Bannon has been indicted for criminal contempt of Congress.
I've spent weeks watching people say "they're just letting him get away with it", but...the criminal justice system takes a long time to do shit, and the DoJ isn't supposed to talk about grand jury referrals until and unless there's an indictment. (Which is a good guideline. Remember that time Comey didn't follow it and got Trump elected?)
While there's no shortage of motherfuckers getting away with appalling shit in this country, just because you don't hear about someone getting punished right away doesn't necessarily mean that's what's happening. Real life isn't Law and Order; legal proceedings take time.
(And obviously an indictment is just the beginning, not the end. It's still possible he could get away with it, but I don't think he's likely to get a sympathetic jury in DC.)

Still hope for Many Are Getting Arrested then.
Re: Trump Leaving Office Poll (Part 2)
Even if Bannon is convicted, he can choose jail (up to two years, though beware of maximum sentence reporting) and fines rather than agree to testify. But I think it's unlikely the House actually needs any information from him; I think it's likelier he's the low-hanging fruit they want to use as an example to anybody else who feels like ignoring a subpoena.

Between this machine starting to roll and the Covid assisted suicide of the far right base I'm starting to feel hope again. Somebody shoot that down before I hurt myself.

Stuff like this never really does much to restore my faith. I'd rather see people redeem themselves than get squashed for continuing on their bullshit; I know that doesn't *happen* in real life and, well, that's why I don't have any faith left.

I have my odd sort of faith, based on the simple laws of physics: No debt goes unpaid forever.
Doesn't mean the outcome will be GOOD, but Something Will Happen at some point and it's possible that the outcome will have more good than bad in it. And if not, well, eventually it'll have to.
None of that presupposes any of us will be around to see anything other than More Bad Stuff though.

Two Georgia election workers sue far-right website over false fraud allegations
The defamation suit against The Gateway Pundit was filed Thursday by Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, a voter registration officer in the Fulton County elections office, and her mother, Ruby Freeman, who was a temp worker for the 2020 election. The women were featured in a Reuters report published Wednesday on their ordeal.
The lawsuit names the Pundit, its founder and editor Jim Hoft, and his brother, writer Joe Hoft. It alleges they repeatedly published demonstrably false claims that portrayed the women as “traitors” who conspired to “steal the presidential election in Georgia.”
A lawyer for Jim Hoft and The Gateway Pundit did not immediately respond to a comment request Thursday morning. Joe Hoft did not respond to a comment request.
The lawsuit, filed in St. Louis Circuit Court, alleges that the Pundit’s “lies” about Freeman and Moss “devastated” their reputations and “instigated a deluge of intimidation, harassment, and threats that has forced them to change their phone numbers, delete their online accounts, and fear for their physical safety.” the suit says. Freeman went into hiding.

Zoe Tillman: Trump Lost Again In His Bid To Stop The Jan. 6 Committee From Getting His White House Records
He's got 2 weeks to appeal to the Supreme Court. He'll try, but I don't think they'll take it. This is one of those "we don't have to rule on the merits of your claims because you haven't actually made any claims" rulings.
I think that, with the current makeup of the Court, it's possible that a competent legal team could at least raise enough questions for the Court to take up the issue and tie it up for a few more months, maybe even rule in favor of preserving executive privilege for *some* of the material.
But these are not the filings of a competent legal team. These are the lawyers who are willing to work with Trump despite his reputation as a difficult client who won't listen and might not pay you, and who Trump is willing to work with because they won't tell him "no."
