EDIT: I don't want to triple post, so just adding on to this.

Friday, I still haven't seen any Nazi flags, but this photo of a guy with a "Camp Auschwitz" shirt surfaced.

EDIT2:

The Atlantic: Far worse violence was planned for Wednesday's rally, and the only reason it didn't come off is because no one expected to actually get in that easily.

Yeah, I saw the Camp shirt guy earlier. I think it was beat that linked a take in finalfight of some idiot girl asking "wait, maybe he's a survivor?"

Don't get me wrong, I have no trouble believing that Nazis were in that crowd.

Oh yeah, I don't think anyone on the boards needs to see a flag to know that.

Also, I had a small laugh at being able to find a link to the image you described Bal sending, by simply adding "Reddit" to the google search.

I took a break from the thread so I don't know if anyone already linked this, but in case nobody has:

These Black Capitol Police Officers Describe Fighting Off "Racist Ass Terrorists"

The first glimpse of the deadly tragedy that was about to unfold came at 9 a.m. on the morning of the insurrection for one Black veteran of the US Capitol Police. But it didn’t come from his superiors — instead the officer had to rely on a screenshot from Instagram sent to him by a friend.

[...]

BuzzFeed News spoke to two Black officers who described a harrowing day in which they were forced to endure racist abuse — including repeatedly being called the n-word — as they tried to do their job of protecting the Capitol building, and by extension the very functioning of American democracy. The officers said they were wrong footed, fighting off an invading force that their managers had downplayed, and not prepared them for. They had all been issued gas masks, for example, but management didn’t tell them to bring them in on the day. Capitol Police did not respond to BuzzFeed News’s request for comment about the allegations made by officers.

[...]

The officer even described coming face to face with police officers from across the country in the mob. He said some of them flashed their badges, telling him to let them through, and trying to explain that this was all part of a movement that was supposed to help.

[...]

Another officer, a newer recruit, echoed these sentiments, saying that where he was on the steps to the rotunda on the east side of the Capitol, he was engaged in hand-to-hand battles trying to fight the attackers off. But he said they were outnumbered 10 to one, and described extraordinary scenes in which protesters holding Blue Lives Matter flags launched themselves at police officers.

“We were telling them to back up and get away and stop, and they’re telling us, they are on our side, and they’re doing this for us, and they’re saying this as I’m getting punched in my face by one of them … That happened to a lot of us. We were getting pepper sprayed in the face by those protesters, I'm not going to even call them protestors, by those domestic terrorists,” said the officer.

While it was a hard day for almost every officer at the Capitol, Black officers were in a particularly difficult position, he said, and he drew a stark contrast with how police handled the Black Lives Matter protests this summer.

“There’s quite a big difference when the Black Lives Matter protests come up to the capitol,” he said. “[On Wednesday], some officers were catering to the rioters.”

He said that what upset him the most was when he later saw images of a white colleague taking a selfie with the attackers, seeming to enjoy his time with the insurrectionists who were roaming the US Capitol with confederate flags and other symbols of white supremacy.

“That one hurt me the most because I was on the other side of the Capitol getting my ass kicked,” he said.

The one of the woman screaming "It hurts" isn't from the DC coup sadly, but from November. I think she was refusing to wear a mask on the plane, and got abusive when asked to. Why do I know this? Because the other person being arrested in that clip is crying that she can't be arrested, she has kids, to which the cop says "We've arrested people with kids before" or somesuch.

An Urgent Reckoning for the Trump Brand

And the Trump brand, premised on gold-plated luxury and a super-affluent clientele, may not fully recover from the fallout of his supporters violently storming and vandalizing the U.S. Capitol, hospitality analysts say and some people close to the business acknowledge. Other companies linked with the Trumps, including Deutsche Bank, the president’s largest lender, and Signature Bank, are also seeking distance from him and his business.

That hits him where it hurts. He's already had trouble finding banks willing to do business with him due to his multiple failed businesses; this is going to put the squeeze on him, his family, and his businesses. He's spent the last two months grifting supporters for donations, but that money train's been shut down too.

I still think Trump TV is a real possibility. As always, Trump's real value is in marketing his name, rather than any of his business ventures. That value has diminished, but it still appeals to an extremely enthusiastic customer base, and there's definitely at least the potential for profits to be made in the conservative media market. I think there are still some conservative billionaires who wouldn't mind doing business with him (one less this morning).

Gist of the video: Purportedly, advisors have warned Trump not to pardon himself, and he's responded by saying if he can't pardon himself, then he's not going to pardon anyone. (Beyond, y'know, all the people he already has.)

I wouldn't put too much stock in this, because Trump frequently just says stuff that he doesn't follow through on. But then again, he is motivated primarily by selfishness and spite, so I guess we'll see.

I still expect him to pardon his family and his businesses, even if they talk him out of trying to pardon himself. But he's also out of his goddamn mind, so who even knows what he's going to do at any given moment.

Another in what I assume will be a very long series of "nobody listened to the black officers" articles: “No One Took Us Seriously”: Black Cops Warned About Racist Capitol Police Officers for Years

I really wish the narrative would change from "not taken seriously" to "the people hearing the reports were themselves racist and therefore buried it."

White Supremacy terror threats aren't discounted because the people hearing them are too stupid to realize that White Supremacy terror threats are dangerous. They are intentionally buried because White Supremacy is what this country is about. It's baked into our judges, our politicians, and certainly our police force. It's in the military, the banks, and in the office where you work. It surrounds you at all times.

When people talk about "institutionalized racism" that's a good thing that it's being talked about, but they tend to only half realize what that means. They think it means some abstract thing that hurts POC. That's certainly true. But what they don't realize is that in order for racism to become "institutionalized" it has to be everywhere. It has to be in every single level of society. The highest office in the land is current occupied by a White Supremacist. It is everywhere.

Even when Facebook got big and people started complaining about how all their relatives were outing themselves as racists on it, they still didn't understand. It's everywhere. It surrounds you at all times.

So when a black cop reports that his fellow officers are racist, who hears that complaint? A racist.

And what do racists do when someone complains about a racist? Do they file a report to make sure their fellow racist is exposed? Or do they bury it? Or do they bury each and every complaint, report, and incident in their power?

I was shopping around for a new bank fairly recently and I saw Greenwood was just launching. It's founders include the rapper Killer Mike, and it's got a very strong Black and Latinx community push. I went to look for reviews to see what features it had, and HOLY SHIT, I had not seen the level of open racism ever before. It was insane how angry people were getting over the idea of a bank that focuses on the Black and Latinx community rather than white people.

Am I right in thinking Evangelism came into being to provide a Christian sect in full support of slavery?

Hmmm possibly. But that could have happened in Europe.

I mean Puritans were essentially chased off to the New World because they were annoying as fuck. Where exactly the breakdown came where puritanical was narrowed to only include like-skinned peoples in addition to like-minded peoples is not something I'm entirely sure of.

Just gonna leave this here...
In a now-deleted FB video, prosecutors say, Ryan is heard saying “We are going to f---ing go in here. Life or death, it doesn’t matter."
Just before entering the building, she adds: “Y’all know who to hire for your realtor. Jenna Ryan for your realtor.”

Couple DC cop videos (via NBC).

Obviously this isn't a blanket validation for cops or anything, just interviews with a couple of hopefully-alright guys. Content warning for descriptions of guys who actually did fear for their lives (as opposed to the usual cop-out (HAHA GET IT) "I feared for my life.") and images of them in visibly life-threatening danger.

Watch this one to the very end:

NBC version of interview with some additional comments (and an annoying NBC narrator cutting in an out)

And one interview with the guy getting squished. "I would have done that for free"
"It was actually my pleasure to crush a white nationalist insurrection"

"It was actually my pleasure to crush a white nationalist insurrection"

I just now stumbled onto an article that suggests the answer is 'the moment segregated schools lost charitable donation status'. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story ... ins-107133
