Hello and welcome to Let's Play My Milky Boy.

For those of you unaware, Working Designs is notorious for fucking with the difficulty of the games they localized, and Popful Mail is no exception. Luckily a patch exists to return Popful Mail to it's original, Japanese difficulty balance (while retaining the Localization work WD did.)

I am a complete Popful Mail virgin. I have never played it and only seen maybe 2 minutes of gameplay and a few screenshots. I know it's a 2D action platformer with RPG elements and anime cutscenes, but beyond that, nothing.

So, I'll leave it up to you all how much you want me to suffer.

On one hand, Friday likes games to be absurdly hard.

On the other hand, as I understand it the WD alterations make the game hard in a not-fun way. There's not even a giant hallway full of Evil Fire!

I'll vote original difficulty.

But since you started a thread in this subforum I'll expect videos of the playthrough.

Here's the thing, the actual video game part of Popful Mail is... I'm going to use the word "serviceable" and leave it on the table. You don't really need the increased difficulty. It's not as purely abusive as other Working Designs rebalances, but it also doesn't improve the experience in any way, and the argument that "that's how people played it back in the day" has one big logical issue with it.

Until fencing practice comes back, I could generally do Weds - Sat at about 8pm Eastern. I turn into a pumpkin at about 10pm Eastern.
