Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
At this point I'm wondering if Yoshi's is just too quietly exceptional.
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
I feel like now's a good time to start taking bids for my expertise as a *obviouscough* "security consultant".
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
I hope every poll from now on ends up in a three-way tie.
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
Final votes:
SMRPG: 9
EVO: 9
Yoshi's Island: 7
SoM: 9
Welp, here comes the part I hate.
It's obvious from what people have said in the thread that EVO is a serious contender/dark horse. The problem is, I've never played it, and therefore my votes by default go toward SMRPG and SoM. Personally, I'd advance SMRPG and Yoshi's Island if I were picking, but Yoshi's (somehow) isn't in the running.
Brutal round, in any case.
Fuck it. I'll advance all three and run a random 1v1v1 in the round of 16.
The pain is only put off. Leg it!
Advancing: SMRPG, EVO, SoM
Eliminated: Yoshi's Island
Next up:
23. Harvest Moon
9. Super Castlevania IV
20. Out of this World
12. F-Zero
SMRPG: 9
EVO: 9
Yoshi's Island: 7
SoM: 9

Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
I want to vote for Out of this World but like last time I played the original ST version and not the SNES port, so voting for anything but Racing for Meat in the Walls feels disingenuous.
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
if i dont vote for out of this world tim rogers will come to my house and force me to workshop his next 12,000 word rhythm game review to make sure it sounds enough like chuck klosterman
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
Out of this World is a beautiful, haunting, unique game no matter which version of it you play. I think Flashback was the game in regards to which I mentioned not being great at those sorts of puzzle action platformers, and the same is true of Out of this World, but I hold a super high regard for it just the same. The SNES one is the one I banged my head against the most. Super Castlevania 4 didn't really get its due from me last round; it's not my favorite Castlevania game and basically exists as LOOK AT OUR SNES GIMMICKS: THE PLATFORMER but it is really really good for being that and is still incredibly fun to play. I still leave F-Zero as something that is a good soundtrack with not a lot else there, and while I do really think Harvest Moon is an awesome game, it doesn't come above Super Castlevania 4 or Out of this World in this particular matchup.
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
F-Zero and CV4 barely edge out Out of this World, 8-8-7.
Advancing: F-Zero, CV4
Eliminated: Out of this World, Harvest Moon
Next up:
11. Super Metroid
15. Kirby's Super Star
26. Super Punch Out
17. Shadowrun
Can Shadowrun survive twice? With everyone's favorite bounty hunter in the mix, things don't look good for Jake.

Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
I don't know that Jake has THAT much to fear from Kirby.
I kind of want to be contrary and vote for Shadowrun over Super Metroid. My only real gut reason for doing this is because Super Metroid has essentially been remade, re-iterated on, and ripped off endlessly in the current indie landscape while Shadowrun still remains almost one of a kind. Super Metroid is the better crafted and more fun to play game, but Shadowrun actually leaves a much stronger impression as a stand-alone thing. Kirby wins out over Super Punch Out for me handily. I know in my heart a vote for Shadowrun is purely betting against the favorite, but I wouldn't consider it if Shadowrun wasn't such an interesting construction.
Fuck it, other people will shore it up. Shadowrun and Kirby. This is for Yoshi, goddamnit. Somehow.

Not anymore, apparently. Probably so I have a harder time creating ties.
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
I could not bring myself to vote for the best Kirby game. I guess I really don't like that seriess very much!

Kirby!
Also, read a Shadowrun SNES LP on the archive.
Still annoyed that Jake has an infinite pool of essence.

Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
Less than you're annoyed at the Street Sam/Decker/Shaman multiclass?
Re: Hottest SNES Game (Ro32)
EH?
The only rules-based obstacle to that multiclass is the trade-off between essence and magic.
The OTHER reason you can't do the omni-god-multiclass around a table is that your Jake-of-all-trades will be extremely outclassed by the other PCs that have focused their karma and nuyen investments into getting good at "their thing".
