Genesis/SCD Write Ins (Decide my fate)
So Genesis Aladdin discussion is going on and it got me thinking: I should actually play Genesis/SCD games finally. I've been a Nintengal all my life, it's time to throw off those chains.
So.
Usually when I make these lists I include some stuff that's good just off the top of my head, but I don't know shit about what's good on Genesis/SCD beyond like, Sonic and Gunstar Heroes.
So for the most part you guys will determine everything.
Also, though we'll be voting down to one as usual, we're gonna have a secondary goal: At some point, we will eliminate the games down to ten, and I will play those top ten games. I'm a busy girl so ten is gonna have to do to start.
Anyway:
1. Sonic the Hedgehog
2. Sonic 2
3. Sonic 3
4. Sonic and Knuckles
5. Gunstar Heroes
6. Popful Mail
7. Aladdin
8. Shining Force
Okay, everyone. Remember that I will actually be playing the top ten finishers.
EDIT: MAXIMUM TEN GAMES PER POSTER PLEASE

Ecco: The Tides of Time (not sure which is better so I'll let the poll decide)
Shining Force 2 is probably a better choice than 1 if you're only going to do one of them.

Re: Genesis/SCD Write Ins (Decide my fate)
<Brentai> Okay I am now going to look at a release [list, sic] of Sega Genesis games
<Brentai> de la Hentai Pick the absolute ten musts out of that
<Brentai> Then list that, and also the ten that people haven't listed by the time I'm finished with mine.
jk I'm doing the "games people haven't listed list" first. I'm also dropping the other Streets of Rage games off of it because we really don't need the entire series on this poll.
Ranger X
Pulseman
Lunar: The Silver Star (CD)
World of Illusion
Gain Ground
Sparkster*
Golden Axe
El Viento
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist
Phantasy Star II
* I am the only person in the world who likes Sparkster more than Rocket Knight Adventures, deal with it.
Okay now putting the full list up in tiny text because I spent some time on it:
<Brentai> Quickly realizing that my list of "most necessary Genesis games" is going to be very different than my list of "best Genesis games".
<Brentai> I'm going to try and keep in mind the order of "Games You Should Play First, To Properly Get a Feel of Being a SEGA Kid".
<Brentai> Not that I actually was, but you know.
Apologies to anyone whose browser renders the tiny text with the same obtrusive line height as normal text.

Re: Genesis/SCD Write Ins (Decide my fate)
I'm going to add Light Crusader, not because it's incredibly good, but because it's interesting in a very peculiar Treasure-does-Zelda-with-neat-tech-stuff-and-some-general-weirdness kind of way.

As a brit kid whose formative years were all 8 bit microcomputer based, I have no votes to cast but will be playing through the results to see what I missed.

Re: Genesis/SCD Write Ins (Decide my fate)
Haunting at least is worth playing just a little bit of, but not if you're going to play any set of only ten games.
I feel like there should be a Mortal Kombat on the list because Mortal Kombat was such a big fucking deal on the Genesis (maybe not outside of the Console War, but it's still the best-selling non-packin on the system), but honestly the best playing and most historically important one is the SNES Mortal Kombat II. Also you don't actually have to play any of them to understand their place in gaming history.

Re: Genesis/SCD Write Ins (Decide my fate)
Brentai is half right, you SHOULD have a genesis Mortal Kombat game, the best one of the series and of course also generation for any console: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
who's in it?
there's like 10k fatalities, brutalities, friendships, animalities, you fucking name it
