Re: The unbearable cuteness of D'AWWWWWW
I said it in #finalfight a couple days ago and she didn't argue at the time: asking whether Friday likes dogs or cats is like asking whether she likes inhaling or exhaling.
yeah, I'll say here what I said there:
I love dogs and cats about evenly. Dogs are more work, but they're also generally more useful to have around.
I have never and will never buy into the whole "cats are assholes" or "cats don't really love you" bullshit the internet is so keen on. Some cats are assholes, but I've met plenty of asshole dogs too. The thing is dogs are like slavishly devoted and submissive, so by comparison cats can seem aloof or whatever.

IMO Opinion, earning a cat's unconditional love and trust feels like it's quite a bit more challenging but somehow more rewarding for being so.
But then sometimes you just want easy kisses so, DOG, and there's nothing wrong with that either.
Basically cats require more mental effort to bond with, but they're a lot less intensive of physical resources and time investment. Dogs require a much bigger investment of time and physical resources/money, but bonding with them is trivial. I don't blame anyone for finding the one easier then the other.
Either way, these are creatures we created and we owe them responsible treatment.

Did we create cats? I thought they just showed up when we unlocked granaries.

It's, uh, complicated and not entirely certain. The most basic element is that modern housecats are mostly a hybrid between African Sand Cats and European Forest Cats, which is probably not a pairing that came about AND spread so widely by chance.
Cats in their modern form (i.e. the cats of CAT PICTURES), I'd say, yes, absolutely. I'd bet sailors of the last couple hundred years had no small part of that.

I like how excited they get watching each other come down.
