So living on the west coast we touched on the general layout of the ocean in school, but this pic is a really nice way of showing the important parts, even with the disclaimer about creature size.

Today I learned that the oxygen minimum zone goes a lot deeper than the light zone. I would have thought the two were about the same because photosynthesis = respiration, but that currents churn a lot of oxygen downwards and phosphates and metals upwards, so it's a very broad and changing gradient, not a uniform barrier.
