TV Series On The Television
Whoever told me True Detective had an interesting ending, please come here so I can either kick you in the nuts or punch you in the baby, as appropriate.
Re: TV Series On The Television
Having not seen any of True Detective, literally the only thing I saw from anyone on the internet about the ending was "wait so why were we all speculating about this shit again".
get better tv opinion circles i guess

Re: TV Series On The Television
alright I will say spoiler things now so
the thing is the entire series is this two-decade spanning story with people producing mysteriously recurring sentences like "the yellow king" and "Carcosa" and "time is a flat circle"
and wide stretches of unaccounted for time where the certified bastard protagonist could have done anything
and the twist at the end is that the fucking gardener did it
It's like Lost ended the first season by revealing the island was just a inlet off the coast of New Hampshire and they all survived because of decent seatbelts.
NO BETTER
they find a mad scientist with a smoke machine
and the scientist has a boat

The last episode of HIMYM read like they took the worst possible fanfiction post from Tumblr, cut out all the gay sex, and used the results for the episode.
I've not watched in years (but thanks to my mother, I see an episode every few days) but this baaasically shat on everything that happened in the last five or so seasons.
It's nuts.

What is it with TV writers and getting a sudden case of performance anxiety at the ending? Let's go back to where we started cause that's ARTISTIC. I thought the show's theme was 'life goes on', but it's more of a 'guest stars move on'.
Re: TV Series On The Television
I don't watch the show but as I understand it, they shot all the ending stuff with the kids way back at the beginning of the show, so they wouldn't get older as the series progressed, and that meant they locked themselves into some specific story constraints and a specific ending before they had any idea whether the show would have legs or what direction they'd want to take it in eight years later. This person talks some about that.

Re: TV Series On The Television
Whenever a show I haven't watched before ends I'm always like "Dang that show still existed? Oh it started in 2006? How does that even happen?" And then I realize that Breaking Bad started in 2008 and I still haven't finished watching it.

what if
they didn't use that footage
Then they wouldn't have anything to finish with. Nothing to show the kids reacting to the end of the dad's story. Whole thing would just be a wet fart.

Glad they dodged that bullet.

Indeed! Instead of a boring non-ending, they went for screaming outrage instead. Any reaction is a good reaction!
From what I can tell it's like if 30 Rock ended with Jack and Liz getting married.

Or if Lost ended with Jack and Kate...
has there been any TV show whose ending wasn't "And you might as well have just watched the pilot and this episode. Thanks, sucker!"
