Head of University of Alberta's Sexual Assault Centre fired for* denying rape occurred during Hamas's Oct 7 attack.

* Signing something saying "unverified accusation that Palestinians were guilty of sexual violence" re the Oct 7 incident.

The firing isn't oniony; it's justified. The thing that got her fired is the oniony bit.

A situation in which a "head of Canadian campus sexual assault center signs [a] letter denying Oct. 7 rape cases [from halfway across the globe]" is IMO onion levels of ridiculous. I figured r/nottheonion type stuff would go in here too.

Ah, I gotcha. I usually just put those in news. There's times some of us might stumble in here not looking to read actual news, and that's probably even more the case for subjects like sexual assault.

Everything Elon Musk Did While Visiting Israel

Kissed The Ground And Cried After Finally Returning To An Apartheid State

According to witnesses, South African–born Musk immediately dropped to his knees after stepping on Israeli soil, overwhelmed with joy to be back in a state segregated by race and religion.

Not sure if you saw but Vivek dropped out and endorsed Trump (of course).

If you mean it's racist, yes, it's Trump, that's kind of the point.

Jon Stewart returning to The Daily Show but will only host on Mondays; other hosts will handle the other three days a week.

He's only signed on to host through the rest of this year, though he's signed to EP through next year.

This seems like a perfectly decent, if temporary, solution to both parties' problem -- Apple canceled his show because he wanted to talk about stuff they didn't want him to, and Comedy Central can't seem to make a deal with a new permanent host. (I'm in the "just give it to Roy Wood" camp; I'm not sure whether they haven't been able to reach a deal with him or just don't want him for the job for whatever reason.)

I wonder how much they'll make him hew to the Daily Show formula. I don't think Stewart's at his best when he has to spend the last act of the show talking to somebody who has a movie to promote, but if he's interviewing people he's actually interested in interviewing then that's something I'd be more than happy to see.

Only watched the first segment so far, but I can't say as I loved Stewart's first day back. A whole lot of his most frustrating impulses on display; a pretty heavy dose of bothsiderism, followed by some normalcy bias where he declares at the end that even if the other guy wins it's not going to be the end of America.

What was kinda fascinating was watching tonight's A Closer Look segment immediately after and seeing Seth Meyers hit a lot of the same beats and make a lot of the same points but do a much better job of it.

I'm still a Stewart fan and I'm not going to write him off over one disappointing segment, but man I hope next week is better.

And if nothing else, y'know, there's a lot more to Stewart than just the headlines at the top of the show. He's a great interviewer when he has a guest who interests him, and he's really good at spotting and nurturing talent -- his greatest legacy may be all the people who've worked for him and gone on to bigger and better things.
