That some of those are considered only Canadian baffles me, like kerfuffle, gong show, or deke. Really? Those are ours?

I've been hearing kerfuffle my whole life and was as confused as you and Will as to why it was a Canadian thing.

Gong show and deke are foreign to me though.

We have "pop" too, in parts of the US, though not here in Cali where it's Soda.

What really weirds me out is in certain parts of the south, all soda is "coke."

Gong Show being somehow Canadian is absolutely crazy to me, because the actual Gong Show was an American TV series. Even Starr was like "What? No. I heard that when I was growing up." never mind having actually watched it at times.

Deke is basically a fake-out (specifically, a physical one). That one I can see as Canadian, but it was still a surprise.

Pop is a well-documented regional thing.

On the subject of Coke, one thing I never knew was that Dr. Pepper and Coke were a longstanding Texas/Georgia rivalry (cos that's where they were made). So, like, in Smokey and the Bandit, in the diner scene when bandit orders a Coke and the Sheriff orders a Dr. Pepper, it's actually a signalling thing (to the viewer).

Deke, as in "decoy". It's a hockey term.

It seemed like he was kind of inferring "out for a rip" in the moment, and no reference to the Canadian National Anthem:

I'm all but certain that that was what popularized the term.

I don't know if we have a category for this. It's... kind of a let's play.
