The first shot is Weird Al tossing a cassette to Weird Al. Looks like it's exactly what it needs to be, which is Walk Hard 2: You All Get a Chance to Correct the Disservice You Did To Dewey Cox

Oh you mean we gotta get this beautiful movie into the green... and avoid the dire injustices visited upon Dewey Cox's box office.

Yeah everyone needs to actually buy this

Weird is now streaming on Roku. Free with ads, as I understand it.

I'm probably not going to watch it tonight; I'd like to either catch it with my dad or my nephew.

And there's a soundtrack!

The partner and I watched Weird: The Al Yankovic Story tonight, and I was kinda disappointed.

It gets some mileage from playing all the bio-pic drama tropes over the top, but I think it would have been a stronger movie if it had started off more subtle about it, or if it hadn't stuck so close to the musician biography film structure. The mandatory gets a swollen ego and ruins his life segment is easily the weakest section of the movie.

The film has its share of good jokes, but by far the most comedic moment we experienced was the abrupt cut to a commercial featuring Queen music, right after the scene where Al rejects going on stage with squares like them.
How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.

it's one joke stretched out too long, but the cadence of al's comedy will always feel like a big warm hug to me. if the entire thing had the nearly-black-dynamite energy of the last ten minutes or so it woulda been a more enthusiatic thumbs up. we were elated when the movie just retcons michael jackson out of existence entirely but thus slightly disappointed when he still existed after all, just in al's shadow.

Al's done a lot of great videos over the years, but this is an old favourite and I honestly think this was really maybe the first that just went all out.

I mean, just about everyone and everything the song touches is in there, so many people clearly wanted in on the fun. Of course Don Pardo and Art Fleming are the obvious ones, directly participating, but the parents at 2:36 are Al's actual parents, Dr. Demento one of Al's earliest promoters (and fans) puts in one of his appearances, and Greg Kihn even shows up to drive the convertible in the final shot to mimic the ending of his own music video for the original song. There's probably a bunch more I'm missing, hidden in the TV staff with Dr. Demento.

It seems like such a watershed moment, where Al is no longer just another comedy act, but A Thing.

(Also, completely unintentional, but a plumber from Brooklyn? Heh.)
