The glassy-eyed stares and recycled animation really sell the authenticity of the low-budget kids' video

'Steamboat Bill' was a song originally published by Arthur Collins in 1911, and was one of the recording industry's very first big hit songs. It inspired many cover versions in subsequent years, as well as providing the inspiration for Buster Keaton's popular film of the (nearly) same name, 'Steamboat Bill Junior'. It also served as the opening track for the first appearance of an obscure and unimportant cartoon mouse, which nevertheless helped the song remain in popular consciousness for many years to come, and which might be giving the song another little revival in popularity today.

Here's one of the many covers, this one by Paul Tremaine, chosen in this case for Tremaine's smooth, clear vocals (I may have... a few different covers).

Talking about Kris again means I'm back on my bullshit

He never thought much of his voice, even less so now that age has taken his voice away. Now that's bullshit - his voice was exactly perfect for what he needed it to do and wanted to say.

My wife's been replaying MGSV, and in that game, you can collect audio tapes of popular 1980s music. She's set her extraction helicopter to play Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" so it's been stuck in my head for the past few days. It also reminded me that Canadian one-hit-wonder Len did a cover of the song for the Digimon movie. And the music video for that is...

well, it's definitely an artifact of The Year 2000.

As Vitalic once sang, "Too Flash, too Flash. Doesn't care, about to crash."

Ahem:
Drives too fast, Drives to flash
Doesn't care about to crash
How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.

aside from a very brief stint with "She Blinded Me With Science" that was also my helicopter soundtrack for the entire game
