Final fucking fantasy 22 3/4

Postby Smiler » Wed Jul 16, 2014 11:06 am

I just finished replaying FF7. It was pretty fun. By the time Cloud went and fucked off all of my physical attacks were starting to outpace my magic. I then rushed to the Gelnika to get double cut and then Cid was outdamaging every magic spell. Flare and Comet x4 are pretty underwhelming when they're topping off at 6-8k while Cid's doing 18k damage consistently. I decided against doing emerald weapon when I did about 200k damage while also forgetting about his dumb materia attack. Everyone had about 15 materia equipped so they all died.

I think the funniest thing was Nodal insisting I get KotR and I listened to him, but then I never used it. I finally did the dumb chocobo breeding, I never have to listen to anyone ever again.

I actually never finished FF7 because I kept trying to breed chocobos for KotR. I finally became so frustrated with the game I gave the whole thing up.

Yeah, I started replaying FF7, got to the Chocobo breeding part, remembered how much of a pain in the ass it is and dropped it. Haven't gone back yet.

There's a cheaty trick to it, IIRC, but can't recall what, for the life of me.

In a way though KotR made the game kind of boring. Press button, win fight.

You forgot the "go make yourself a sandwich".

Or can I use that figure of speech without starting an argument about how long it actually takes to make a sandwich?

In this case I will accept that one can finish preparing a sandwich before KotR finishes.

The closest I can think of is "Hold down shoulder buttons while racing to recover stamina, allowing you to dash enough to even beat Joe and Teioh sometimes." Since racing is such a big part of the breeding side quest, it's a big timesaver.

The funny thing is that you don't even need to do the chocobo grinding. There are boatloads of other ways to beat all of the other bosses without touching KotR. Hell, by the time you get the option to start breeding chocobos you're probably capable of running through the end of the game anyways. The only boss you might need KotR for is maybe Ruby Weapon, but fuck Ruby Weapon. The reward for killing it is a gold chocobo. Fuck you Ruby Weapon.

Smiler we all know you technically haven't beaten FF7 until you've killed the Ruby Weapon.

Look I'm not going to grind the few hours to pimp out materia just so i can get a really shitty gold chocobo. I don't know where it came from; it wasn't forged in Smiler's Chocobo Eugenics Nightmare Farm 2k14.

The first time I finished the game the most powerful summons I'd managed to pick up were Neo Bahamut and Kjata.

Say, are you using any of the fan mods? It's been a few years since I checked in on them but I thought they were pretty neat back in 2011.

Aw jeez, guys. You realize KotR/Golden Chocobos aren't in that game for the sake of normal people, right?

It one-shots everything in the game other than Ruby/Emerald. It's a cheat code. :/

But if I don't get everything, how do I know I've beaten the game?!

It took two shots for the final battle IIRC, but yeah.

I apply this to life.
I may have a problem.

Starr's response: "You know you've beaten the game when you get the screenshot of you and Mike Haggar holding hands on a hill overlooking the cleansed city."

I don't like the way Final Fantasy games of late have strayed from the ORBS. Part of what made Final Fantasy Final Fantasy was that you had ORBS and had to defeat the four FIENDS to save the world, but nevver games have crystals instead or worse: none at all! Why call it Final Fantasy if you're not going to have ORBS and FIENDS and Black Mages and White Mages and canoes and Airships (helicopter boats, not spaceships) and it's Imps, not Goblins!

Final Fantasy is just not what it used to be. It's like I've lost a friend (whatever that feels like, I haven't had friends since last millennium).
