There's a combination lock you can make out of llamas underneath carpeting iirc, but it requires them to be honest inventory-having llamas and not these frustrating fucks with no payload

ebwop: I can hop on and see if there's a swamp out west and if so, is there also a handy portal nearby

Started off looking for slimes but found an igloo a stone's throw NNW from spawn. I left a trail (don't hurt Hambone*) and rolled the guys down there for some books I think we need. Dude on the right has Silk Touch for peanuts, and dude on the left is an asshole. He's got Fortune III, but his better trade for it is further down from the top. There are emeralds and books down there for trading, but I left a bunch of SIlk Touch and Fortune III in the book chest near the skelly spawner regardless.

*Speaking of endermen maybe we can toggle their griefing off? It's probably more noticeable because spawn is on an ice sheet but man they leave a lot of little piles lying around. Come to think of it, a random hunk of nylium showed up next to my starter tent at the same time one of those vine towers disappeared and I'm blaming that weirdness on an enderman until I hear otherwise.

Yup the nylium (and vine towers) were there to guide people from spawn towards the village. Endermen love that shit, they can't keep their hands off of it. Just watch them spread it around far and wide around the edges of a warped forest.

IIRC there should be a fairly simple way (using datapacks or command blocks) to restrict the palette of blocks and items endermen can pick up, place, or carry, ideally to 0.

In past updates it was a lot more onerous. Turning off mob griefing per the native Minecraft command would disable endermen, creepers, ghasts, and withers from destroying the real estate, but it would also disable villager farmer activity (rendering villager auto breeders inert), sheep wouldn't graze so they can't regrow wool ever, and other basic and necessary things.

You had to install a mod or plugin (or dig into the code yourself) to precisely target just the enderman pickup/littering. Or use a command block to force every enderman to be born with an invisible payload in hand already, completely unable to drop it or pick up anything else. The ideal entity ID to fill their hands was the normally-invisible Extending Piston Head. Can't be placed, because theoretically it shouldn't exist, it's an animation widget to stand in for the gap between two states of a normal piston. Forced to schlep a singularity forever, they left the terrain alone.

As for slimes, I too was on yesterday for about an hour and got no further than the village bone zone. Had to add in a smelter for the armour bits and a trash bin for the leather junk and overflow arrows. If you toss trash bows in the fuel chest you can get a trickle of free gold and iron from all the skele armours dropped while killing at the farm.

There's still a double chest of bows, arrows, bones, and bone blocks in reserve for all your dispenser building and dinosaur museum needs.

It seems like there is a datapack specifically for enderman griefing here: https://vanillatweaks.net/picker/datapacks/

If there aren't any objections, I'll apply it an reload the server sometime this evening.

Oh yeah, that would be rad. I see that there are player and mob head drop packs there as well, would it be possible to plunk those in there too? I miss having a head pile.

There's now a portal at -224, 0 that goes essentially directly into a swamp (dumps you out at -1920, 0) with a flat spot for farming slimes.

The nether walkway made of basalt that heads due west from the spawn shack will get you there. Stop running when you see a sort of broken column thingy decorated around the edges with warped blocks (can't recall what they're called but they're bright teal). Go just west of it to the little square blackstone-lidded box and go through to the swamp.

Fantastic! In gratitude I have built a halfassed but surprisingly efficient slime farm on that spot and have also left a half dozen stacks of snot in the community chest.

I promise not to use this for a shitload of TNT gliders but I'm definitely going to blow a few giant holes in the ground now.

Mad respect for the OG minecraft soundtrack. I guess some folks are also super nostalgic for the Steve Grunt player_hurt.ogg.

Oh right, that column thingy was mine. I somehow got it in my head to try and provide overland access in the nether following the safer ceiling route, with access going up and down as well. I know a simple ladder probably would've been fine, but I've always felt something more monumental is helpful in such a gloomy and dangerous place.

There should be a small walkway down the stairs in there leading to the portal now. It wasn't much of a walk in the first place, but these basalt ridges are particularly treacherous. Just... don't be surprised if some segments of the stairs are missing; this dumbass thought he could get away with using wood so close to lava.

Oh good, I almost ate shit in there a bunch of times while going back and forth.

I finally broke down and started setting up a small trading hall for books, so there are some guys in my place selling all the assorted Protections IV, Sharpness V, and some other stuff. You can get there either going under my tent, down a trap door in the ruined tower, or a trap door and a long tunnel under the map room in the chalet. And probably some other entrances all over the damn place.

Pink wood and warpwood are perfectly fireproof in the Nether. I might be persuaded to set up a plantation of these exotic softwoods somewhere convenient.

Since the main complaint about them (besides their '50's diner chic) is being bonemeal-intensive, it seems fitting we can plant them right next to the Bone Zone.

As for walkways out in the open spaces of the Nether, I'd wait on this until at least some of my stuff was netherite. It's one thing to fall into the lava sea, it's quite another to fall into a 1-block deep shallows of lava and take full fall damage (which lava doesn't mitigate) onto a hard surface and die that way and have your stuff spray into the lava and get burned anyway. (Netherite items don't burn up in lava)

That'd be neat. I started growing a little bit of the stuff for decorative flourishes at some point but nothing like an actual farm. As far as getting around the nether, I guess I could punch a hole through the bedrock and we could run around on the roof, but that seems kinda cheesy (for anything except like a ghast or a gold farm, which fall into the category of so much trouble you kind of earned it.) In the meantime I can probably bring a bunch of beds or a TNT duper down there and start bombing around for netherite.

If you want easy access to y=16 in hell, take the ladder in the shack DOWN to the Really Long Tunnel. Feel free to start excavating by branching off this tunnel - with a couple major caveats:

A) the tunnel turns RIGHT at some point. I'd prefer any blasted hellscapes to branch off the LEFT side of the tunnel

2) Obv you want to pick a spot to start branch blasting that's FAR from obvious lava pockets. So that it doesn't spill back into the tunnel and make it a spicy mess.

Righto, I'll start there and be wary of wrecking shit too badly.

Also, the Giant Fucking Hole in the Ground Family Fun Zone is open at 250x200.

It's stupid and has no reason to exist.

Not sure if I should encourage giant explosions in my back yard, but I guess I'll be tossing my gunpowder in the chest nearby.

And while I was dropping some off, I was wondering about the waste llamas. Do you suppose they could be used as escorts/fodder? It's been a while since I did a mapping hike, and having some disposable spit guns to help hold off zombies might be useful.

I've noticed there's already a few warpwood and pinkwood trees planted in Shark Park. Is this for everyone, or are they decorative?

(I've hauled off to the Far Fort to cut warpwood in the little gantry I built for this purpose ages ago. I have a little over 3 stacks of each type of logs and plenty of leaf blocks/wart blocks whatever they're called. Working on bringing back some mushrooms of each type since we're a little short for some reason. Any other requests? I have piglins in a boat and can get crying obby or whatever.)

Those are mostly decorative but I've got a couple of square wooden planters in the midst of them that I've been using to grow and harvest and regrow shroom trees, which is easier anyway. There's also chest near them with a bunch of logs and wart blocks that anyone is welcome to. In fact, basically anything I've got lying around is up for grabs if anyone has a use for it. At some point I'll have to rig a big autosorter under/near the chalet for community resources, otherwise I tend to leave boxes of junk all over the damn place.
