Why is there not a Manhunt Battle Royale yet? The main feature of BRs, for better or worse, is getting taken out instantly from an unknown position. So this takes perfect advantage of that.
It can basically copy the Assassin's Creed online game mode. Everyone starts the round with a target. You get points by getting your target, and get disqualified by killing anyone other than your target or hunter. If you kill your target you get a new one. If someone else gets your target and kills them before you, you're disqualified.
It can still work similarly to AC even with character customization. Just make the NPC models placed based on the players in that round, and maybe even have different hair styles or accessories that get mixed up on them to make you look a little harder.
I hate BRs, but if there was decent queue timing I would play the ass off of that.

Not my idea, but the idea of an FPS set in a mecha game world like Armored Core where you just play as a foot soldier. Because I think I'd play the shit out of that.

Mechwarrior: Living Legends may get you close. It's a fan project that basically recreated older mechwarrior games in a mechwarrior online setting. There's a planetside-like point buy and you are a foot soldier who can be a mechwarrior, tank commander, or run around between vehicles while fighting in a personal armored suit. Though as I understand the last option isn't really a main course. It ends up being more like Metal Warriors mech swapping at most. I haven't actually played in a few years, though, and it looks really clean now.

Traveling Merchant figure who shows up outside dungeons or around the open world, conveniently placed, they offer special deals on certain consumables and a "wanted list" of types of loot items that they're paying more for at the moment. But the prices are all terrible. Merchants in towns will buy for twice and sell for half of the best deals the merchant has to offer.
Specifically this isn't something that comes up in prompts or tooltips at any point, and the traveling merchant dialogue regularly reassures you that he offer the best possible prices on his deals and wanted list. You just have to actually bother to go check at any point.

This reminds of that one innkeep in Dragon Warrior IV who gives you a tour of his town, taking you to every building and giving you a little bit of background on the shops and touristy spots... but not to the town's second inn, ran by his competitor, which has rooms for half the price.

There's a section in Secret of Evermore that's basically this entire concept but weaponized: You're dumped into a huge marketplace with dozens of stalls, and given a time limit to do as best as you can. It's a whole complicated thing: You buy basic items for GP and then trade them up for better and better items until finally you can turn in rare items for powerful equipment. But each stall has different exchange rates, so getting the best deals is very tough. And because there's a time limit, you feel massively pressured. Oh and also the market is sprawling and weird, several of the best stalls are behind hidden paths, one of which you can only enter from an adjacent screen.
Everyone hated it. Like half the retro reviews of the game I've watched point out that section specifically as where the game took a huge downturn.
I thought it was neat!
You can eventually come back to the market at a later time and take all the time you want to get the best deals and acquire the equipment, but, well, by that time the gear is less useful.
I understand why people hated it though. I just thought it was a cool idea. It rewards players for being organized and having a good memory, it's an actual skillcheck instead of a "how long are you willing to grind" for gear upgrades.

Hell, my little brother and I liked it so much we tried recreating it in real life with little goods made from polymer clay. Beads, little spice jar-like lumps, and even a few smudged tapestries. Fast forward a few decades and my kids dig out a piece or two from the old Lego bin sometimes.
