That's been my problem too. For now I've got the excuse that this computer is very old, and that I will switch OSes when I replace it.

But I'm not relishing the thought of trying to force Windows 10 to obey me instead of MS, yet most major games I play are very much not Linux-friendly at all.

There's always dual-boot, I suppose, but that just seems like extra work to maintain two OSes while also not even using the nominally better one almost the entire time.

My solution's been Linux as my main plus one laptop running Win10 for the very few programs I need it for.

Steam's got a compatibility layer that I've found works quite well for the vast majority of Windows games I want to play (ProtonDB is a good resource for compatibility info on individual games).

For games that don't play nicely with Linux, a look at eBay suggests you can get a used PS4 for around $200. A Windows 10 Home license is $140.

My Windows 7 license key (which I bought back in 2014, when it turned out that Windows 8 was a dumpster fire) activated Windows 10 Home with no fuss or bother, didn't even have to harass Microsoft to re-activate it. My goal with that computer is primarily gaming so I decided to just resign myself to putting up with Win10's bullshit.
