The level of mental backflips people are willing to engage in to continue to take the protagonist's side even when the protagonist is very, very clearly wrong is pretty insane.

This of course almost always manifests with male protagonists, and is done by male fans. I don't know if there are examples of female protagonists who are terrible who get hardcore stanned like Walter White does, but as usual the culprit for this stupid behavior seems to be misogyny.

I'll talk about this a bit more in my tv shows thread when we get to Breaking Bad and a few other shows, but honestly there's not a whole lot to discuss, it's like 90% misogyny.

Sadly a lot of the reality is that most terrible male role models hurt other people, and most terrible female role models support the person hurting them.
