Weird Al
Re: Weird Al
Been going through my CDs again, and I'm pretty delighted at how well everything has aged. Except maybe The Night Santa Went Crazy, but that one's not really his fault.

I thought Christmas at Ground Zero was the one that became retroactively uncomfortable.
I've seen him do The Night Santa Went Crazy live a couple times. (One time the machine that made the fake snow had some kind of malfunction and this guy sitting in the front row got completely covered in the stuff.)
(The front row at a Weird Al concert is messier than you think. Last time I saw him I sat in the front row and got his spit on me during Smells Like Nirvana -- you know, the part where he gargles.)

Still prefer MC Frontalot's effort on the subject from 2010
Hey, and he did one about grammar on the same album!
Does this mean...Weird Al is copying another musician?

Well, I'd say the possibility of a nuclear apocalypse has only diminished since then (if only a little bit), while the possibility of a guy losing his marbles over some real-or-imagined slight and shooting up a bunch of innocents has practically turned into a quarterly occurrence.
Song's still catchy as hell though.
Re: Weird Al
You understand that the term "Ground Zero" carries connotations now that it did not in 1986?
Re: Weird Al
Ooooh right, I suppose so. Point taken.
Re: Weird Al
Weird Al holistically administrates exceptional synergy with Mission Statement on WSJ.
ALSO: Today is the 25th anniversary of the release of UHF. Why is no one talking about this?
Yankovic said in a recent Reddit AMA chat that when he ran into Nash last year in New York, Nash asked when Yankovic was going to record a parody of “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.” Yankovic wrote, “I whipped out my iPhone and played ‘Mission Statement’ for him. Instant request! (He loved it, BTW.)”

Because Victoria Jackson is a right-wing lunatic.
Re: Weird Al
Still holding out hope that everything Victoria Jackson has done for the past 15 years has been an elaborate work of high-concept satire on the level of Andy Kaufman.

And the only notable thing Michael Richards has done this century was a racist tirade.
But hey, Weird Al's got a new album out.
Re: Weird Al
Watching UHF again in honor of the anniversary, it's really easy to forget just HOW fucking funny this movie really is. The blind man trying to solve the Rubik's Cube is like a sublime modern art installation of comedy.
Re: Weird Al
The Atlantic has a good piece on Weird Al's media savvy (and posits a reason why he didn't just post all his videos on YouTube).
It also brings up that the digital age has given him increasing competition from amateurs and how that impacts his work. He said in a Reddit AMA that he wanted to do a Let It Go/Star Trek: TNG parody called "Make It So" but did a search and found out somebody had beaten him to the punch:

His favorite film is Top Secret. Which explains UHF.
Speaking of this, remember the sandwich Weird Al described in this interview? Well, some guys made it and ate it. Apparently it was pretty good!
