What? METROID is evolving! Let's Play AM2R!

Postby nosimpleway » Mon Aug 08, 2016 1:59 am

hey guys did you know there's a fan-remade and much-enhanced version of Metroid II: The Return of Samus that just came out?

Here's a video of me playing it, like I do.

Hey, cool! Also, I believe the original Metroid II manual called those floaty pancake things "chute leeches".

Nice, I'm more into longplays than speedruns.

This other videogame forum I frequent is in a big awful masturbatory shitfit about how the Metroid II Remake is completely unnecessary and loses all of the flavor and ART of the game boy original.

Like, I can maybe see them defending the complete lack of music, bleak-ass dark contrast, and general dread as part of the atmosphere, but holy shit who could possibly play the original and not think that the mechanics need a serious upgrade to be considered playable by modern standards:

There's a reason most people never bothered playing Metroid II.

I find it incredibly impressive how good of a Metroid game it managed to be, but the sacrifices that had to be made to fit it on that tiny-ass screen alone heavily encourage a modern remake.

I watched the whole thing. Good job.

Too bad they kept the shattered Chozo statue but couldn't have it holding the Ice Beam. Kind of diminishes the poignancy, since the original implication seemed to be that the Metroids tried to destroy it because they detest the cold.

Overall, it sure does look like a fan game, but you can tell they put a lot of love into it—especially how they added entirely new regions to the map.

Aww, man, I wanted more with the baby jelly.

I don't care how much Other M ruined it, Babby will always be special to me.

Anyway, A++ would R^2 again.

They're still not as bad as they were in Fusion or Zero Mission. God help you, Zero Mission.

yeah, given that I've only played Metroid, Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime 1, my experience with shineanigans is very limited.

Too bad there's really not a lot of reason to try and get 100%. I had to go and play Environmental Station Alpha to get the metroid fever out of my system.

(ESA is great btw play it)
