The character's resurrection in season 2 definitely felt like a "wait, why are people mad about this, uh oh" thing. Just no idea what they're doing.

Latest Lower Decks was decent. God do I wish this should would calm the fuck down for 5 seconds.

Main plot was cute, B plot with the planet was pretty cool. Feel like they should’ve dropped the C plot with Tendi entirely to give this any room at all to breathe.

I love ones where characters go insane, which also tends to happen all the time in Star Trek. Glad they’re not scared of making any one character lose composure.

This conversation is beginning to resemble Chris Sims's breakdown of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (Leonardo = most Ninja, Raphael = most Teenage, Donatello = most Mutant, but ultimately Michelangelo = most Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. It's hard to argue with the math.)

It's not that it was back as such, the corporate owners just decided to occasionally cross-post comics-adjacent news from ScreenCrush there.

Sims was writing for Looper for awhile but his last article was at the end of June. (Which is just as well, because I hate Looper with the fire of a thousand suns.) Not sure what he's up to these days; I've got a bunch of episodes of War Rocket Ajax I could listen to and probably get some idea, but my podcast listening has greatly declined since I've cut down my driving time to "once a week to go get an allergy shot". And boy WRA is hit-or-miss; it's great when they get a good guest on to interview, but sometimes it's just ten minutes of Chris talking about his new office chair. Why is he talking about his new office chair for ten minutes? It's not product placement, because he never actually says what kind of chair it is. It's just...an ostensible comics podcast where the hosts sometimes go on lengthy tangents about unrelated items such as recent furniture purchases.

It seems like they're doing the Andromeda thing where the galactic civilization of good guys has fallen and our heroes from the past must recreate it from scratch. It's also a little reminiscent of the cancelled Star Trek: Federation series concept, where the Federation has also collapsed (though gradually, due to stagnation and corruption).

Setting Discovery season 3 in the 32nd century is a smart idea, as it places it after the most chronologically recent events of previous series, which were 31st century (Daniels from Enterprise, the Voyager episode where a copy of the holographic Doctor is re-activated in a museum).

This means the writers of season 3 can still call on old lore, but the passage of time lets writers make significant changes to the setting as necessary. Perhaps more importantly, they can have any events take place without worrying about contradicting established canon, which was something fans complained a lot about.
