"Coronavirus" is the category, dangit. (COVID-19 thread)

I got all mine, then had to use them all when I contracted covid to both confirm I got it and that I was negative

Up here they have grocery stores giving them out, and WalMart tried to sell them (minimum purchase), before Dougie pitched an absolute fit (understandably so!) and they backpedalled.
Anyway, we've got enough kits now (2-3 boxes, with 5 tests each) that we're turning down any more.

I think my son got one through school? And we might have gotten another in the mail? I'm not sure. I could've sworn I saw a bright orange box or two, but I think they were squirrelled away to keep little hands off.

I got both my first and my second set.
It's not automatic, though, you have to request them at https://special.usps.com/testkits

Yeah, everyone in my family (including 2 other households I trust for sure would do it) ordered the day the site went up. I went back with that link and tried to order two sets, and only being able to order one in this setting before being told I was at the address max.
Even if it was an Ohio thing that would make some sense, but one of those houses is still in NY and also hasn't received anything yet. I'm honestly amazed everyone else seems to have gotten at least one of theirs.

Not great but not horrible (insert Chernobyl meme). Mainly a good, concise look at where we're at and where things might go. Vaccination actually seems slightly more effective in preventing hospitalization against BA.2, so that's alright!

Oh, but the pandemic is "over." We're supposed to "get back to normal."

Realizing I neglected to mention that two days after I placed the second order two packages with all tests showed up.

Granted, what's going on in China may not be well-reflected in this data, but even with CCP obfuscation there's reasons to believe the death rate outside of HK is still low, and even if they were high, I'm not sure that really changes the overall story of this graph all that much.

At this point, it's got to be intentional.

Part of it is just the "This money was allocated for this years budget and must, by law, be spent." and I get that. I also get that people are screaming about crime because nobody remembers the 80's.
But ugh, they really couldn't come up with anything better?!

No, they probably know that people are one meal from rioting en masse and want to make sure the private army is well fed enough to not risk having compassion. Which they don't anyway.

Yeah, they're militarizing and upsizing the police in preparation for the popular response the rest of their policies historically prompt.

I also forgot about the whole baby formula issue. Adults can skip a meal and be upset. Make babies skip meals, well, no one wants to think about that happening.

Apparently some people do. As long as they're the "wrong" babies.
